Eröffnung: Samstag, 13. September 2008, 16 - 18 Uhr Die Konrad Fischer Galerie freut sich, mit der Ausstellung "Some Settlements" Rita McBride im Kreise der Künstler der Galerie begrüßen zu dürfen. Rita McBride (* 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa) darf zweifellos zu den international bekannten und bedeutenden zeitgenössischen Künstlerinnen gerechnet werden. Innerhalb ihres Oeuvres verhandelt Rita McBride einen eher unkonventionell und unorthodox zu nennenden Begriff von Skulptur und Installation. McBrides überaus komplexe Arbeiten verweisen jeweils auf architektonische Kontexte und Themen im Umfeld von Design und Urbanität, diskutieren zugleich gesellschaftspolitisch und soziologisch relevante Fragestellungen. In ihrem eigenwilligen Zugriff auf Materialien wie Murano-Glas und Klebeband, Rattan, Vinyl oder handelsüblichen Decken-Unterkonstruktionen aus Aluminium (neben eher "klassischen" Materialien wie Bronze, Edelstahl oder Holz) deutet sich eine ebenso ungewöhnliche wie auch metaphorische und humorvolle Materialästhetik an: eine "retro-aktive" Sicht auf den Kontext von Material, Moderne und Utopie, die Begriffe wie Serie, Standard, Form und Funktion, aber auch Entfremdung, Ambiguität und Fiktionalität im Zusammenhang mit architektonischen oder urbanen Strukturen auf den künstlerischen Prüfstand stellt. In der Konrad Fischer Galerie präsentiert Rita McBride, die seit 2003 an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf lehrt, Skulpturen aus Bronze, Stahl und Kupfer sowie die Rauminstallation "National Chain", die parallel auch in der großen Einzelausstellung von Rita McBride im Museum Abteiberg Mönchengladbach gezeigt wird (Eröffnung 14. September 2008, 12 Uhr) und auf die wir hier freundlich verweisen möchten. Zur Ausstellung erscheint eine Werkmonografie von Rita McBride im DuMont Verlag.

Rita McBride (b. 1960, Des Moines, Iowa) is certainly to be counted among the most internationally renowned and distinguished contemporary artists. In her work Rita McBride explores quite an unconventional and unorthodox notion of sculpture and installation. McBride's exceedingly complex works deal with architectural contexts and topics related to urban planning and design and question their inherent sociological and sociopolitical problems. Oftentimes, in her idiosyncratic handling of materials like Murano glass, adhesive tape, rattan, vinyl and standard suspended ceiling systems the audience is confronted with an "offbeat" aesthetic which is metaphorical as well as humorous. Rita McBride introduces a somewhat "retro-active" reading of the interrelation of material, modernity and utopia. At the same time she puts on trial terms like standard, seriality, form & function. Ambiguity, alienation and fictionality within the context of architectonical and urban structures are also brought into focus. At Konrad Fischer Galerie Rita McBride will present sculptures made of steel, copper and bronze. Also on view at Fischer Galerie, will be her room-size installation "National Chain". Rita McBride´s one person exhibition at Museum Abteiberg Mönchengladbach will be opening the next day on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 12:00 noon. The exhibition will be accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue published by DuMont. |
