Installed directly onto the stairs and floor of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Jim Lambie's Zobop (Colour-Chrome) (2019) transforms the architecture of the gallery's rotunda into an immersive, energetic experience. His vibrant vinyl tape installations blur the boundaries between sculpture, installation and drawing, activating the act of moving through space and turning the mundane journey up or down the stairwell into a psychedelic, performative experience. An extension of his acclaimed Zobop series, Lambie's site-specific works radically shift how we understand place, wrapping architectural forms in optical rhythm and vivid saturation.
