Ahead of the renovation of Schloss Bellevue – the official principal residence of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany since 1994 – the Akademie der Künste presents a two-week exhibition in the palace. A symbol of historical remembrance, the exhibition includes Gregor Schneider's Goebbels’ Birth House, Rheydt, 2014, which confronts the consequences of far-right ideologies and the country's National Socialist past. After acquiring the long-forgotten house in his own hometown of Rheydt, Schneider recorded everyday actions in its rooms before stripping the property completely, to question how societies engage with sites marked by historical violence.
