David Douard at Kunstverein Siegen

With "Der Paravent ist ein Objekt des Dazwischen" (The Paravent is an Object of In-Between), Kunstverein Siegen has conceived an exhibition that takes its starting point from a simple, everyday object. The paravent points not only to architectural but also to art-historical strategies of spatial organisation, making visible that space is not a given structure but one that can be interpreted anew again and again.

The exhibition brings together artistic positions that explore this principle in different ways. Kasia Fudakowski (b. 1985 in London; lives and works in Berlin) works with the paravent itself as form, developing with Continuouslessness a series of elements that never quite fit together, forming a fragile, contradictory continuum. David Douard (b. 1983 in Perpignan; lives in Aubervilliers near Paris) creates permeable, almost provisional structures from cables, textiles, and digital fragments that suggest space rather than define it. Georgina Hill (b. 1986 in Worcester, UK; lives and works in London) takes up familiar architectural elements and transforms them into poetic installations in which memory, function, and space overlap. Together, their works open up a perspective on space based not on demarcation but on relation — on what lies between us.
